How to measure student placement readiness before companies arrive

Readiness is a cohort picture plus individual evidence. Run institutional assessments early enough to teach, not only to rank.

Placement cells often discover unreadiness in the company test. That is the most expensive moment to find out that a branch cannot finish a coding section or that aptitude timing was never practised.

Readiness measurement is an internal assessment programme with a date that is before the first serious drive.

What “ready” should mean

Ready is not a single percentage. It is:

  • Coverage: who is on the roster vs who attempted
  • Section performance: aptitude vs coding vs written
  • Integrity: whether the mock was a real sitting
  • Individual evidence: a faculty member can open an answer, not only a rank

Edgeryt Campus is built so placement teams and faculty can review cohort results and individual student responses. Integrity evidence guides a human review; it does not replace one.

A readiness paper should have named sections and weights you can explain to a department.

Run readiness as a programme, not a surprise test

  • Schedule mocks against the placement calendar, not against leftover lab slots.
  • Use the same formats companies will use (MCQ, coding, written), but your own items.
  • Return feedback while there is time to teach.
  • Repeat once. A single mock is a snapshot; two points show movement.

How Edgeryt Campus supports this

Build multi-section assessments using formats such as multiple-choice, coding, numerical, and written questions. Configure section timing and scoring. Organise students in departments and groups, import rosters, and keep profiles with results.

Mobile delivery can cover MCQ, multi-select, true/false, short-answer, and long-answer questions with standard proctoring according to policy. Coding and other desktop-only formats need a computer.

Adjacent area: using scores with visiting companies

If you will share a readiness score with a recruiter, say so to students in advance, and keep the paper stable. Do not re-key marks into a company Excel if you can export from the same record you already trust.

Employers still run their own hiring assessments in Edgeryt Hire.

Questions teams ask

Should every branch take the same mock?

Share the structure. Swap domain sections. Civil and CSE should not share a hidden coding cut-off you never announced.

How hard should the first mock be?

Hard enough that the second mock can show improvement. A 100% paper teaches nothing.

Can faculty mark writing?

Yes, and on eligible plans a model can propose written marks for a person to review. Confirm plan features on a demo.
